If It's Not Broke....

Sometimes I come across a card created by someone else and it just speaks to me. This is one of those cards. I love copper foil paper and this card caught and held my attention. The site I found it on is paperconversation.typepad.com owned by Mickey Roberts. The only thing I changed was the doily beneath the copper tag. Ruching ribbon has never been a strong point for me. Here is my version of her card.

It was hard to photograph without getting a reflection. Isn't it a thing of beauty? Mickey was very generous on her site, so I hope you will visit her. Now for the directions.

The card base is Sahara Sand. On that, adhere a Soft Sky panel. Set that aside. Take the Designer Series Paper and cut it at an angle. I use a guillotine cutter, so I just made sure I had an inch from the top and bottom. You will put your paper in long ways....ask me how I know. Just make sure you are cutting in the right direction. :)

--Along the inside diagonal cuts, you will stamp the lace edge with Versamark ink. Get as close to the edge as possible. Sprinkle Copper Embossing Powder on the image and heat emboss. When you are heat embossing, hold your tool in the same place until you see the embossing powder start to melt. Only then, start moving it slowly as the embossing magic happens and your image is transformed. Line your embossed paper pieces up on the copper foil paper. I used Tombow Multipurpose Liquid, but Tear and Tape would work as well. Using regular runner tape might not hold to the foil paper well. See how the copper sheet shines in the middle, highlighted by the embossed lace?

Now for the tags. You will cut two. The copper foil one uses the butterfly cut outs, and the Soft Sky one is plain. I would recommend using the Magnetic Platform with the copper foil to make sure your butterflies stay in the right place. The sentiment is stamped with Stazon Jet Black ink. It's the only ink will dry on the foil paper. And be careful, because the foil surface is a bit slick and you can slide and ruin your sentiment. But, if that happens, I found an alcohol pad will remove the ink and you can try again if you act quickly.

--To assemble the tags, line up the holes and edges and adhere them using the Tombow Multipurpose glue. It gives you a little time to make sure the edges are aligned and is a bit more forgiving than roller adhesive. Now, attach your ribbon and glue the tag to the front of the doily. Use dimensionals to attach this whole unit to the front of the card.

BUT WAIT!!! Don't forget the inside!

Remember those foil butterflies? Put them to good use. To a panel of Very Vanilla, add a small strip of the same Designer Paper with a thin Soft Sky strip adhered to the bottom. Stamp your sentiment in Sahara Sand then place the butterflies using the Tombow Multipurpose Glue and toothpicks. Those butterflies are really small!

Now, who to give this card to? Mine is going to my son Brett and his wife Melissa. He has an appointment with the heart failure panel at Duke University February 20-22. They will be putting him through a battery of tests on those days. You see, he needs a new heart. I know this card will help encourage them. Who do you know that needs encouragement?
